Project C.A.R.E. (Community Alliance for Reaching the Elderly) is an
organization dedicated to helping enhance the quality of life for elderly
people through a variety of volunteer-based initiatives at the community level.
The mission of the program is to establish community alliances that will
promote interaction with the elderly, and to raise awareness for elderly
citizens living in unhealthy conditions or that simply have no family support.
Project C.A.R.E. was created to encompass several programs geared toward aiding
seniors as well as the Volunteer Guardianship Program. Additional Project
C.A.R.E. program initiatives include:
-
The Intergenerational Reading Program between the Moccasin Bend Girl Scout
Council and area public libraries;
-
The Lee University Adopt A Grandparent program uniting the Garden Plaza
residents with Lee students;
-
A Beauty Day for Seniors involving beauty academies providing free services to
the elderly;
-
Supporting area schools' Grandparent’s Day activities; and,
-
Speaking to area students on “Respecting your Elders” and Character Education.
